TEASED IN SKETCH: Hyundai IONIQ 6

The IONIQ 6 will be the next electric vehicle to feature in Hyundai’s line-up.

Before we dive into the IONIQ 6, let’s take a step back in time. In March 2020, Hyundai showed the world renderings of its Prophecy concept. Behold…

Sleek ’n sexy lookin’ thing, innit? Hyundai described it at the time as “Sensuous Sportiness” that “stripped away” complexity in favor of clean lines and minimalistic structures” as compared to 2019’s 45 concept EV. Here’s some more eye-candy…

Fast-forwarding to the present brings us to the IONIQ 6 sketch teased by Hyundai last week…

Although looking sleek and very UFO-esque, multiple spy shots show the more-realistic-for-the-road production mule in camouflage undergoing road-testing. While the 45 concept spawned what we now know as the award-winning IONIQ 5 with its angular and sharp lines, the IONIQ 6 looks to depart from the former with a much cleaner, smoother and more aerodynamic curves. It’s no wonder then that Hyundai have chosen to christen it “the Electrified Streamliner.”

Here’s what we DO know at this time — the IONIQ 6 sits on the same dedicated E-GMP electric vehicle (EV) platform that is also used by the IONIQ 5, Kia’s EV6 and the Genesis GV60. This probably means that the largest battery pack on offer should be around the 78kWh mark, and like its counterparts, should support fast charging up to 350kW, allowing said battery pack to be charged from nearly empty to 80% in around 20 minutes. Range should be about 480km from a single charge.

Like you, we await more news with bated breath. More teasers will apparently be dropped on the IONIQ 6 Campaign Page. We look forward to seeing the actual undisguised production form, supposedly later this month.
